Väderstad TopDown cultivators are designed for New Zealand farmers who want maximum efficiency from a single cultivation pass. By combining shallow full-width cultivation with deep soil loosening, they deliver versatile soil preparation across a wide range of field conditions. Multiple cultivation zones ensure excellent residue mixing and seedbed finishing, helping maintain soil moisture while reducing the number of passes required. The result is faster field work, lower establishment costs and consistent performance in NZ cropping systems.

Väderstad TopDown 300-700

The Väderstad TopDown is a high-intensity cultivator designed to perform both shallow full-width cultivation and deep soil loosening in a single pass.

With working widths from around 3 m to 7 m, it adapts easily to varying field conditions, delivering versatile and efficient soil preparation while reducing the number of passes, preserving soil moisture, increasing capacity, and lowering overall establishment costs.

TopDown combines several cultivation stages in one machine, featuring an intensive disc cultivator together with a robust three-axle tine system. Discs spaced at approximately 12.5 cm cut and mix the topsoil to create a fine tilth, while the following tines at around 27 cm spacing loosen and mix soil and crop residues down to working depths of up to 30 cm. In the final stages, a levelling system and packer finish the operation by creating an even, well-reconsolidated seedbed surface.

High quality discs

The high quality discs are produced using specialist hardened Swedish V-55 steel. The discs provide intensive cutting and mixing of soil and crop residue.

To adapt to varying soil conditions, the working intensity of the discs can be adjusted from the cab on the move.

Thanks to the discs conical shape, they maintain the same working angle relative to the soil, irrespective of wear or working depth.

Effective mixing and loosening

With 27cm tine spacing, TopDown intensively mixes and loosen the soil down to 30cm depth. With DeepLoosening points the depth increases to 40cm.

The 700kg stone release system maintains the correct working depth in all conditions, contributing to an even crop growth.

Always a level field

The levellers are fitted on a parallelogram, ensuring that the correct working angle is maintained at any depth.

To be able to adapt to varying soil conditions, the driver is able to adjust the intensity of the hydraulic levellers with millimetre precision on the move.

Zone 1 - Intensive cutting and mixing

The high quality V-55 discs cuts the crop residues and mixes it into the soil. To adapt to varying soil conditions, the working intensity of the discs can be adjusted from the cab on the move.

470mm TrueCut discs: The 470mm TrueCut disc is able to handle high crop residues while at the same time the larger cut-outs increase penetration. The discs are manufactured using high quality V-55 Swedish steel.

Zone 2 - Loosening, distributing and mixing

With 27cm tine spacing and a powerful hydraulical stone release up to 700kg, the tines provide an intensive mixing and loosening down to 30cm working depth.

With the wide range of points available, the working result can be adjusted to fit different farming needs. The tine is constructed as a modular system, enabling quick change of points and high versatility.
The MixIn shins throws soil forwards instead of upwards, while also mixing and finely distributing the soil. The tine is constructed as a modular system, enabling quick change of the shins. The following shins are available: 50mm MixIn shin, 50/80mm MixIn shin, 80mm MixIn shin, 80/120mm MixIn shin, 120mm MixIn shin.
Tines can be raised in order to increase the spacing between the tines on the machine. This function can also be used to decrease the working width in order to cultivate at greater depth with the same draught requirement.

Zone 3 - Superior levelling

Zone 4 - Full depth reconsolidation

The hydraullically adjustable packer reconsolidates the soil profile, at full working depth of the machine.

Double SoilRunner is a u-profile packer that fills upp with soil. Due to this there is a soil to soil contact, leaving “open” surface. Double SoilRunner is suitable for light to medium-heavy soils.
Single SteelRunner is an aggressive steel packer. Its steel profile crushes clods and ensures an even consolidation throughout the working depth. Rubber suspension gives the packer a long working life.
Double SteelRunner is a very aggressive steel packer which works well in all soil types, including wet conditions. The packers design creates a profile that allows the soil to dry faster, thereby allowing you to carry out the next field operation quicker. Double SteelRunner creates full depth reconsolidation and is capable of breaking heavy clods.
